Don't worry if you cant pronounce the name, it took us many times and must consternation about the exact way to pronounce, but we got it! Tel-ah-kay-packy. There, you got it!
It was just a sweet trip, 333 km or 207 miles. We got up early, hoping to beat the traffic, headed out and hit every road construction possible. Ugh! But, being an eternal optimist, we were just happy to see so much work done of the roads. The roads, which were toll roads were great and actually alot better without resurfacing than in California.
We pulled in, got our very nice hotel, The Dez, which I recommend highly, and found ourselves in the middle of this colonial city. The churches, cathedrals, the private vendors, all the way to the upscale restaurants, were all perfect.
The thing I appreciated the most? Joyful people. Everyone came to the city in the evening wearing colorful garbs, walking hand in hand with their families, boyfriends, girlfriends, mamacitos, etc. Laughter filled the air along with incredible aromas of Mexican dishes.
We could not have had a better experience.
We went there on a task to look for chandeliers, found them easily at half to a third of the price, and left with full tummies and joy in our hearts.
It was just that easy.
If you come to Mexico, this is definitely a city to explore. BTW, there was never a moment that we felt fearful.
Grateful!
